Intellectual approach
1) Self –Inquiry by Ramana Maharishi
Practice of self-inquiry into “ who am I” in which the seeker focuses continuous attention on the I-thought in order to find its source. In the beginning this requires effort, but eventually something deeper than the ego takes over and the mind dissolves in the heart center. R.MThe mind is full of millions of thoughts at any second. The practice is to try and bring back the monkey mind ( juming from one thought to another) to fix on one thing only; Self-attention. That alone is Self-enquiry , That is all that is to be done. By focusing the attention on this feeling of 'I', , other thoughts will slowly start to subside; opening up the heart centre and revealing the Truth. The technique is often misunderstood to think that the seeker has to keep asking questions of “ who am I” over and over.
This is not the case. simply focus your attention on the “I” . When other thoughts arise ask yourself , "To whom does this thought arise?" causing the attention to return to the feeling of “I”.
2) Art of seeing by Krishna Murti
We are caught in the trappings of our thought-world of conditioning - perpetuating more and more ignorance, , never looking at things they way they are; beyond the myriad of names and forms. This is a human tragedy that begs for immediate attention. The act of seeing transforms reality as we know it. Where the seer and seen are one.Seeing is an art to which one must give a great deal of attention. We only see very partially, we never see anything completely, with the totality of our mind, or with the fullness of our heart. And unless we learn this extraordinary art, it seems to me that we shall be functioning, living, through as very small part of our mind, through a small segment of the brain. We never see anything completely, for various reasons, because we are so concerned with our own problems, or we are so conditioned, so heavily burdened with belief, with tradition, with the past, that this actually prevents us from seeing or listening. K. M
When you learn the art of seeing, art of listenting, art of being… stillness flows.
In its presence the sound of the universe becomes a symphony…noice of the chattering of the mind is put to rest, human worries and quarrels embrace peace
